The 6 Profile Lines: Unique Personality Archetypes
In Human Design, the profile consists of two numbers, each representing a specific personality archetype that guides how you interact with the world. There are six lines, each with its own distinct energy and approach to life. These lines offer insight into your behavior, challenges, and strengths.
There's a distinct difference between the first 3 lines, and the second 3 lines- with the first group being more self-reflected, and the second group- needing interactions with others and the world to reflect on themselves.
Before we dive deeper into each profile on it's own, let's have a look at the six profile line archetypes:
Internal Lines
The first group of lines in Human Design, Lines 1,2 and 3, are "internal" lines. Having this line in your profile means that you learn about yourself and the world- by interacting with yourself.
1 - The Investigator
The Investigator is driven by a deep need for security and knowledge. They are naturally inquisitive and often dive into research, collecting information to build a solid foundation. They seek understanding before taking action, and their detailed approach makes them experts in their fields.
Key Traits: Thorough, curious, and analytical.
2 - The Hermit
The Hermit is introspective and naturally gifted in certain areas, though they may not always recognize it themselves. They require time alone to recharge and connect with their inner wisdom. While they may appear to withdraw from the world, they’re often drawn out by others to share their talents.
Key Traits: Reclusive, self-reliant, and effortlessly talented.
3 - The Experimenter / Martyr
The Experimenter learns through trial and error. They are here to experience life firsthand and embrace mistakes as valuable lessons. While they may encounter failure, it’s through these experiences that they grow, refine their approach, and ultimately gain wisdom to share.
Key Traits: Resilient, adaptable, and a quick learner through experience.
external lines
The second group of lines, lines 4,5 and 6, are types that gain clarity or are able to learn about the world and themselves- by reflecting on their interactions with others and the world.
4 - The Influencer / Networker
The Influencer thrives on connection and building relationships. They have a natural ability to influence others through their networks, bringing people together for shared goals. They are often the bridge between groups and play a key role in fostering community and collaboration.
Key Traits: Sociable, influential, and community-focused.
5 - The Heretic
The Heretic challenges the status quo with innovative ideas and a strong sense of individuality. They often question conventional beliefs and push boundaries, making them natural reformers. While their bold ideas can sometimes be misunderstood, they have a powerful ability to lead change.
Key Traits: Visionary, disruptive, and trailblazing.
6 - The Role Model / Teacher
The Role Model is here to live life as a living example of wisdom and mastery. Their journey is often divided into three phases: learning from experience, observing from the sidelines, and ultimately stepping into the role of mentor. They embody authenticity and lead by example.
Key Traits: Wise, authentic, and inspirational.
Which Line Comes first?
In Human Design, your profile is made up of two numbers, each representing one of the six personality lines.
There are 12 possible line combinations, and the order in which they appear holds significant meaning.
The first line represents your conscious self—how you express your personality and approach the world in a more obvious, visible way. The second line, on the other hand, represents your subconscious or hidden self, traits & behaviors that may not be immediately apparent to others but play a crucial role in how you feel and operate through life.
Understanding which line comes first can help you gain deeper insights into how you naturally show up in the world versus how you process things internally.
